BU Drives "From Kitchen...to Aircraft" Initiative, Promoting Green University and Thailand's Net Zero Goals

Bangkok University is advancing support for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation's (MHESI) Quick Win policy on "Green University" by joining the "From Kitchen...to Aircraft" project—a collaboration between MHESI and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC)—to collect used cooking oil from communities and households for production into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), helping reduce carbon emissions and drive Thailand toward a low-carbon society.

Bangkok University is the first private university to kick off the "From Kitchen...to Aircraft" project with GC, preparing to establish collection points for Used Cooking Oil (UCO) on campus that will serve as a key mechanism for environmentally friendly resource management. The initiative will encourage students and staff to participate in creating a practical learning ecosystem (Learning by Doing) through green innovation and circular economy activities.

Moreover, the "From Kitchen...to Aircraft" project aligns with GC's biorefinery development, which can produce SAF, biochemicals, and bioplastics for use across various industries, reinforcing the commitment of all sectors to push Thailand toward Net Zero goals and support the region's low-carbon aviation hub.

Bangkok University's participation represents significant collaboration helping drive Thailand toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (Net Zero) and the creation of a low-carbon society. This project will operate under MHESI's "Green University" policy, positioning universities nationwide to play a crucial role in driving Net Zero goals by 2050, consistent with government policy. MHESI will support the expansion of UCO collection points to the university network, initially targeting over 20 pilot universities nationwide.
This is not only a response to national policy but also an important step in creating a culture of sustainability within the university that will help instill environmental consciousness in youth and communities, while inspiring other educational institutions to become part of environmental problem-solving and truly drive Thailand toward an environmentally friendly future.
