GEM Report 2025: Bangkok University Reveals Direction for Thai and Global Entrepreneurs, Enhancing MSMEs' Potential to Compete in Global Markets

Bangkok University, in collaboration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), organized a seminar titled "Thai and Global Entrepreneurship Status 2025 (GEM Report 2025)" under the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research project, which is an international research network used jointly by many countries worldwide. This seminar presented research findings from entrepreneurial society assessment using GEM data, covering dimensions of public attitudes, environmental factors, and the level of Thai participation in entrepreneurial activities. This empirical data will serve as important guidelines for policy formulation and measures to strengthen the potential of Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs), enabling them to confidently compete in global markets.

Dr.Wutnipong Warakraisawad, Dean, School of Entrepreneurship and Management at Bangkok University, commented on this seminar: "Enhancing the potential of Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) must begin with creating a stable Entrepreneurial Society. This requires systematic measurement using the TEA index as a tool to reflect entrepreneurial activity levels and potential according to international standards, which will help ensure policy formulation and support measures are accurate and sustainable. Bangkok University, as a Practical University focused on hands-on implementation, is ready to advance collaboration with all sectors to drive and propel the creation of a strong and sustainable entrepreneurial society."

Ms. Lalana Thakeingrasmi, Assistant Director of the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion, stated: "Thailand is facing intense business competition both domestically and internationally. Creating a strong 'entrepreneurial society' is therefore crucial for economic growth. The GEM 2025 research conducted by OSMEP and Bangkok University found that approximately 70% of Thais are involved in entrepreneurial ecosystem activities, with about 1 in 3 playing roles as business owners, while over 15% are in the initial stages of establishing new businesses. This reflects positive attitudes toward entrepreneurship, opportunity recognition, and support from society, culture, and government. This data serves as an important foundation for policy formulation and nurturing quality new-generation entrepreneurs to sustainably drive Thailand's economy forward."

Creating a strong and sustainable entrepreneurial society cannot emerge from the efforts of any single party alone, but requires cooperation from all sectors - government, private sector, educational institutions, and society as a whole - to jointly lay foundations and drive continuous development. Understanding these factors is therefore a crucial first step that will enable all parties to work effectively and see concrete results. Bangkok University, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), and the research team are open to hearing all opinions and suggestions from seminar participants, as everyone's voice is an important part that will help complete the research and extend it toward comprehensive development approaches to benefit Thailand's entrepreneurial ecosystem in the future.
