Bangkok University Ignites New Knowledge in Virtual Production

School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts has partnered with leading industry partners in film and technology, including Kantana Post Production (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Epic Games (developer of Unreal Engine), and Thailand's leading Virtual and Immersive Technology companies, to launch the project "Personnel Development in Virtual Production Using Unreal Engine for the Thai Film Industry to Global Standards" under the support of the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture.

This project aims to develop the potential of personnel in the film and digital media industry to keep pace with world-class technology, while driving Thailand's Soft Power through Virtual Production technology using Unreal Engine and In-Camera VFX, which is becoming the new standard of the global film industry.

Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, Chairman of the National Soft Power Development Committee, stated: "If we want to drive soft power effectively, the private sector must lead and the government must provide support. Industries that drive and stand out, such as the film industry and gaming industry, succeed because everyone takes action, and the government must support by investing in what the private sector still lacks to create joint momentum. The important thing is to expand into global markets. Today's training project is one piece of the puzzle that shows we are doing well upstream, making people skilled through learning new technology like Unreal Engine, which will help us develop technology for producing films, series, and animations more effectively. This is the most important puzzle piece - human development. I must thank the cooperation from many sectors including government, film industry, gaming industry, and universities. All sectors recognize the importance of bringing Virtual Production technology to develop personnel with Unreal Engine, virtual reality creation software that is an international standard in the film, gaming, and creative content industries. This is very good and very important for Thailand's development."

Ajarn Purat Osathanugrah, President of Bangkok University, Partner Arc 9, and CEO of Zipcode, said: "Bangkok University has long been committed to promoting and emphasizing the importance of creativity as part of Bangkok University's DNA. We are ready to support the creation of new values from Thailand to the world. The outcome we want to see from this project is storytelling by Thai talent that reaches the global level. Virtual Production is a new foundation, an innovation that the new generation can use to create media and stories of world-class quality. I believe this partnership will be a very important foundation for creating passion and DNA of pride in Thai storytelling that can reach the world through innovation and creativity."

Dr.Peerachai Kerdsint, Dean, School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts, said: "Virtual Production is not just a trend, but the future of the global film industry. Pushing Thai people to have skills and understanding of this technology is preparing Thailand's Soft Power to go further than ever before, in terms of art, economics, and international cooperation. This project will not only be a space for learning and development but also an important platform for creating networks of experts, students, entrepreneurs, and creators from across the country to jointly push innovation and new standards for the Thai film industry."

One of the project's highlight activities is a Special Talk Session with Mr. Douglas Leong, founder and director of Radiance 60, which is an Unreal Authorized Training Center in Singapore. He is also an Unreal Authorized Gold instructor from Epic Games with over 25 years of experience. Mr. Douglas will share his work experience along with real case studies from Asia and approaches to using Unreal Engine and Houdini technology that transform real-time media production, opening perspectives on cross-industry Unreal usage from games, films, education to future virtual worlds and modern creative industries.

The intensive training runs for 6 full days on July 23, 25-27, 29-30, 2025, divided into 2 phases: seminars, practical workshops, and learning and practicing with Unreal Engine at Bangkok University, and hands-on experimentation with actual filming using Virtual Production systems at Kantana Virtual Production Studio. Participants will receive comprehensive knowledge from virtual set creation processes to controlling images in LED Volume systems and In-Camera VFX (ICVFX).

This project addresses the needs of personnel in the film or digital media industry who are interested in learning or developing Virtual Production skills, as well as students, entrepreneurs, and digital technology researchers. The goal is for training graduates to be able to apply their skills in real work, create industry cooperation networks, and support the sustainable dissemination of Thai culture through digital media on the global stage.
