'Ajinomoto' Shares SDG Strategy, Sparking Sustainable Business Concepts for BU Students
The General Education Management Center organized a special lecture titled "SDGs within Ajinomoto's Corporate Strategy," giving students the opportunity to learn concepts and practices in sustainable development from a leading global organization. The lecture presented a business vision that emphasizes systematically integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into corporate strategy, while building an understanding of the role the business sector plays in driving sustainable development at the international level.
We were honored to have K. Samit Petdee, Sustainability Promotion Manager at Ajinomoto (Thailand) Co., Ltd., give a talk reflecting the view that the SDGs are not merely corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, but part of Creating Shared Value between the organization and society, through the concrete formulation of policies and operations linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Case studies were presented from food supply chain management, the reduction of environmental impact in production processes, as well as the promotion of nutrition for good well-being — all of which reflect the concept of Ajinomoto's creation of shared value with society (The Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value: ASV), which is the core concept of the Ajinomoto Group of Companies in addressing social issues while creating economic value through business operations.
In addition, students gained perspectives on applying sustainability principles in the business world and industrial sector, which helped deepen their understanding of the importance of balancing business growth with care for society and the environment. This also helped develop strategic thinking skills that students can build upon in their future studies and professional careers.
