BU AIR Collaborates with Institute of Aviation Medicine to Develop Students' Emergency Response Skills on Aircraft

Develop safety and in-flight emergency response skills for students

Airline Business Management Department (BU AIR), School of Humanities and Tourism Management, organized the project “In-flight Medical Emergency Response and Safety Management (BU AIR x Air Force Institute of Aviation Medicine)” The project aims to develop safety and in-flight emergency response skills for students in the courses ABM331 Basic Inflight Passenger Service and ABM333 Basic Safety and Emergency Onboard.

The project utilizes a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, focusing on training students in critical thinking and professional decision-making.

This is achieved through simulated emergency scenarios within a Cabin Mock-up designed to closely resemble the actual working environment of flight attendants—a crucial skill highly prioritized by the aviation industry.

During the practical training, students must manage the complete process of a medical emergency:

  • Assessing the passenger's condition.
  • Selecting and using equipment from the First Aid Kit (FAK) and the Emergency Medical Kit (EMK).
  • Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Communicating and obtaining authorization from the Pilot-in-Command (PIC).

All procedures require precision, agility, and effective decision-making under the constraints of aviation regulations.

The training is supervised by experts from the Directorate of Medical Services, Air Force Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital.

These experts provided knowledge in aviation medicine, designed the simulated scenarios, and evaluated student performance according to international safety standards.

This collaboration between BU AIR and the Institute of Aviation Medicine underscores Bangkok University’s role as a Practical University.

It focuses on developing students through real-world experience and working with industry experts, ensuring students are equipped with the necessary skills and confidence to perform professionally onboard aircraft.
