BU Opens Cruise Ship Gateway, Partners with Department of Skill Development for International Career Paths

Bangkok University Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Skill Development to create linkages between the education and government sectors in developing personnel for the cruise tourism industry. Ajarn Purat Osathanugrah, President of Bangkok University, and K. Decha Peukpattanaruk, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, served as representatives signing the academic cooperation and skill development memorandum of understanding, with Asst. Prof.Sansern Milindasuta, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and K. Pattarawut Phaesala, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, serving as witnesses at The Lobby room, 2nd floor, Tourism Tower Building (A5), Bangkok University.

At the same time, K. Decha Peukpattanaruk, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, presented a certificate of honor to K. Menila Pholyon, a 2nd-year student in Hotel Management, as the highest scorer from Pathum Thani Province in the 30th National Skills Competition in the Culinary Arts category.

This cooperation focuses on building bridges between educational institutions and government agencies to meet the demand for workforce in the rapidly growing global cruise tourism industry. The main objectives are to produce quality personnel for the labor market, promote career security, and address the shortage of skilled workers in specialized occupations, while elevating knowledge, capabilities, and skills of personnel to align with international standards.


Both organizations will jointly develop curricula covering various aspects of cruise tourism, such as basic service and safety on cruise ships, nutrition and kitchen duties on ships, wine service on cruise ships, and curriculum groups related to the beauty and healthcare industries. They will provide training for students, workers, and the general public in various courses such as cruise tourism management services, English for service staff, waiters, and chefs on cruise ships.

This cooperation is expected to be a significant driving force in creating quality workforce ready in both professional skills and service mindset for working on cruise ships according to international standards, which will lead to economic value creation and increased income for the country in the long term.
