English Major DNA Day 2025: Cultivating English Major Identity toward Quality Graduates of the New Era

Building both skills and inspiration to become quality graduates in the future

English of Department, School of Hospitality and Tourism, organized "English Major DNA Day 2025" to cultivate the identity and essential characteristics of English major students through Experiential Learning processes connected to the real professional world, building both skills and inspiration for new generation students to become quality graduates in the future.

The event began with ongoing projects leading up to the main event day. The department designed activities based on Activity-based Learning and Problem-based Learning approaches to enable first-year students to learn through hands-on practice, developing their thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving abilities. Activities focused on developing essential skills such as teamwork, creative thinking, effective communication, and critical thinking, with second through fourth-year student mentors sharing their experiences and creating a collaborative learning atmosphere.

The main event day brought together first-year students, senior students, and department faculty to create a shared learning experience under the concept of "Cultivating English Major DNAs," which consists of 7 essential characteristics: Communicative, Competent, Critical, Cultured, Creative, Collaborative, and Curious. These traits reflect the image of a well-rounded modern English graduate equipped with knowledge, skills, and personality.

The event featured collaboration with Genfosis Company Limited, a partner organization in Epigenetics, which provided a real-world challenge on "Marketing Communication Concepts for New Products Targeting Gen Z Customers." Students designed and presented their concepts in English, with industry experts providing guidance and evaluating their work. Outstanding performers were offered opportunities for future internships.

The event atmosphere was filled with fun and unity as students from all years participated in creative activities, sports competitions, and quick-thinking games to enhance the Soft Skills necessary for 21st-century careers, including communication, collaboration, and creative leadership. The event concluded with an awards ceremony.

The "English Major DNA Day 2025" project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals. This reinforces the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism's mission to produce well-rounded graduates with integrity who are ready to create positive change in society.
