BU Student Win Award in Video Clip Contest Through Creative Thinking Power

Students from the School of Humanities and Tourism Management have proven that creativity combined with the technology we have can create award-winning works.

In an era where technology plays a crucial role in daily life, using technology creatively has become an essential skill for the new generation in the digital world. Students from the School of Humanities and Tourism Management have proven that creativity combined with the technology we have can create award-winning works.

Tanaphon  Sayanprasert (Punch) and Siyarat  Petchdee (Woon), two students from the English Language program, Faculty of Humanities and Tourism Management, received the 2nd Runner-up award in the Higher Education Institutions and Prachachuen Research Network category. The award was for the video clip contest under the theme "STOU TikTok Challenge to Carry on the Royal Initiative of Distance Education," organized by the Research and Development Institute, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. Their work was titled "This is the Dream."

Describing the creative process for this work

"This competition involved creating promotional clips for the TikTok application. We used simple equipment like smartphones that we all have to shoot and edit on our phones. If there was anything we didn't know, we researched more or looked at examples from other clips. The production started with thinking about the concept of the story we wanted to tell, what kind of mood and tone we wanted. We drafted a storyboard and wrote a rough script to ensure the audience would fully understand the content we wanted to convey. We were very lucky to have Ajarn Samonwan  Hemnak who helped refine the content and provided guidance throughout the production, making the work successful."

Showcasing Creative Work on Stage

After completing and submitting their work for the contest, they were selected from across the country to enter the final round and prepare to present their work to the committee. "We had to present our clip idea and explain the story we wanted to convey to the committee. The judges liked our work, gave recommendations and feedback, plus we gained experience learning from other teams, encountering new ideas that we can use to develop future work."

Humanities Students Can Do It Too!!

"Although both of us are not studying in the field of Communication Arts, we learned these skills by ourselves through seeking knowledge and past experiences. Participating in this competition gave us additional skills in content creation. We want everyone to try and study various information by themselves. Even though we didn't win first prize, the experience from this competition taught us important lessons."

The success of these two students serves as an inspiration to other students who might be looking for opportunities to showcase their abilities. Regardless of the field of study, combining knowledge with technological skills and creativity can lead to opportunities and other successes. "If we have perseverance and creativity, even with just a single mobile phone, we can create quality work."
