Congratulations to Nile Miss Laksika Panich, a student from the Game and Interactive Media program, School of Information Technology and Innovation, who gained internship experience in Japan and showcased her self-developed game "Whisker the Detective" at Tokyo Game Show 2024, Japan's biggest gaming exhibition.
Internship in the Land of the Rising Sun
This internship opportunity arose from the collaboration between Bangkok University's School of Information Technology and Innovation and Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT), enabling students to exchange experiences and knowledge between the two institutions. "Previously, Japanese exchange students came to study at the School of Information Technology and Innovation. I served as a mentor for Japanese exchange students and learned about an internship opportunity in Japan that aligned with my internship period, so I decided to apply."
Real Japanese Lab Experience
During the two-month internship, Nile developed a detective game called "Whisker the Detective." "I interned at the Open-Source Game Engine: Exploring 3D and VR Gaming laboratory, which focuses on game development. The game was developed under the supervision of a Jap.anese advisor who provided creative freedom and encouraged the development of new skills. In Whisker the Detective, players take on the role of a detective who must solve murder cases, search for evidence, and track down culprits."
The Biggest Challenge
"A significant challenge was learning to use new software that I had never used before, which is popular in the Japanese gaming industry. This software helps develop characters and create more realistic scenes."
Showcasing Work at Tokyo Game Show 2024
The outstanding quality of her work caught her advisor's attention, leading to Whisker the Detective being exhibited at Tokyo Game Show 2024, Japan's largest gaming exhibition. "This is Japan's biggest gaming event, and we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to present our work in person. It was an invaluable experience that not only allowed me to develop my work but also showcase Thai students' potential on an international stage."
