
The Global Explorer Scholarship is intended for applicants with international competencies as well as exceptional foreign language skills. The Scholarship Recipient must be able to represent the University in an exchange program at an overseas institution in order to contribute to international visibility and recognition, as well as potential collaboration with overseas institutions. The Scholarship Recipient shall also act as a global ambassador who initiates projects to enhance English language skills of BU students and encourages their peers to be aware of the importance of the English language. Scholarship Recipients are categorized into three streams, depending on their goals for the scholarship: Study Abroad Stream, Short Course Stream, and English Language Stream.
Qualifications
1. Current BU undergraduate students of Year 1 to Year 3 in both Thai and International program are eligible to apply. Students enrolled in international programs are eligible to apply only for the Study Abroad and Short Course streams.
2. Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of application. First-year students who have not yet received grades may still apply; however, they will become ineligible if their GPA for the first semester falls below 2.5.
3. Able to communicate in English at a level in accordance with the chosen Stream:
3.1) Study Abroad Stream: CEFR-level B2 or higher
3.2) Short Course Stream: CEFR-level B1 or higher
3.3) English Language Stream: Beginner with a strong commitment to improving their English language skills
4. Possess an international mindset, eagerness to improving their English language skills, study abroad or work for international organizations
5. Have the capability to represent the University
6. Willing to engage in language-skill cultivating activities as assigned by the University
7. Applicants must have at least one academic year remaining at Bangkok University, starting from the first day of the academic year following the year of application.

2. Statement of Purpose (in English, no more than one A4 page), outlining:
2.1) Your motivation for applying for this scholarship
2.2) How you plan to make use of the scholarship if selected (e.g. what you plan to study, where, and why)
2.3) How receiving this scholarship will benefit your future
2.4) Why you believe you deserve this scholarship
3. Essay in English (no more than one A4 page) on the topic:
"What can the University do to help students improve their English skills, and what role can you play in supporting this initiative?"
4. A letter of recommendation from your Advisor
5. English language proficiency test score:
Study Abroad Stream: CEFR-level B2 or higher
Short Course Stream: CEFR-level B1 or higher
(Based on official score conversion tables from test providers.)
English Language Stream:
1. An official transcript
2. Portfolio (in Thai or English) demonstrating your commitment to improving your English language skills. This may include (but is not limited to):
2.1) Proof of participation in SALLC activities (e.g. photos)
2.2) Proof of participation in activities in which English is used as a medium of communication, both inside and outside the university
2.3) Proof of using English-learning apps regularly (e.g. screenshots of achievements in Duolingo)
2.4) Proof of taking English classes outside of university studies
2.5) Proof of participation in English language competitions (Participation starting from middle school to undergraduate level is acceptable.)
2.6) Proof of consistent use of English media, such as library borrowing records, photos of your bookshelf, gaming history in English (e.g. hours played on Steam/Nintendo Switch/PS5), or Netflix viewing habits
2.7) Any other proof that demonstrates the applicant’s commitment to improving English language skills
3. A short essay (in Thai or English, no more than one A4 page) on the topic:
"What can the University do to help students improve their English skills, and what role can you play in supporting this initiative?"
4. A letter of recommendation from your Advisor
5. English language proficiency test scores (if any)
Remarks: The choice of language (Thai or English) for items 2 and 3 will not affect the evaluation.
