Only One from Thai Private Universities: BU-ITI Students Join KAIT Internship Program in Japan

 

Kudos to the team of students from the School of Information Technology, Bangkok University, cohorts 1 and 2, who were selected to participate in the KAIT Technical Internship Program (KAIT) as the only students from a Thai private university to be chosen for this program. They received scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) at Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT), Japan. The selection process involves interviews to choose students for the program. Each year, researchers from KAIT come to interview and select students based on project ideas that they want to work on and can actually develop into real projects. Students participate in program development and research projects in various topics under the supervision of KAIT advisors and work collaboratively, exchanging academic experiences with international students from Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This program represents academic cooperation between Bangkok University and Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) that provides opportunities for students to develop skills in computers, artificial intelligence (AI), and cutting-edge technology.

"This program provided real learning exchange in Japan. The experience I gained started with learning a third language - besides Thai and English, I also learned Japanese. Along with learning work approaches, ideas for working or thinking about projects, teaching us to plan and think through work from start to finish as individuals. We exchanged ideas with international friends. Coming out to encounter different contexts allowed us to create new things."
 

 

Hope Chayapol Chuaybamrung  Computer Science student, creator of "Natural Environment Observation AI" advised by Prof. Kosuke Takano "A robot that detects environmental conditions to help humans work by using AI to analyze and examine what we need, such as weather conditions or vegetation, depending on the model we input."

 

 

Oat Adinun Suwannanosin Information Technology student, under supervision of Prof. Kazunori Matsumoto, developed intelligent AI using Advanced RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) techniques "This project successfully reduced hallucination symptoms and broke down AI language barriers. The result is an AI model with specialized expertise about KAIT university data, helping international students access complex information accurately in their own language."

 

 

Rin Kiaratya Gotrakul  Game and Interactive Media student, creator of "Open-Source Game Engine: Exploring 3D and VR Gaming" advised by Prof. Masahiro Sakai "I want Thai characters to be recognized abroad through games that tell stories of Himaphan forest characters, creating memorable visual identity that's easy to understand, memorable, and fun as Thailand's soft power that I want to be recognized. This work is made as a demo game that can actually be played."

 

 

Orm Rujiruda Pianchob Game and Interactive Media student, creator of "Open-Source Game Engine: Exploring 3D and VR Gaming" advised by Prof. Masahiro Sakai "Created a game from a kris (traditional dagger) to make it interesting with a themed game with story. This game is a problem-solving game with various obstacles layered in, where players must explore the area to find answers. This game is a genre I've never done before, very challenging for myself, and finally made it into a demo game for trial play."

 

         

Cohort 2: Continuing the story of experiences, bringing ideas to learning and hands-on creative work that produces real results

Preparing Skills for Learning 

"Those wanting to join the program should prepare before the interview by having ideas for projects and writing a proposal to present. Another thing to prepare is English and Japanese communication - both languages are important and you should be able to communicate at minimum."

Few Sahachoek Kwanjit and Phim Phurin Metanawin Game and Interactive Media students creator of A Goal-Oriented Approach to Social Simulation AI: Integrating Human Needs and Environmental Contexts "Creating AI to simulate social situations through social simulation frameworks regarding behavior when facing various situations to be prepared. We two worked together, sharing knowledge and listening to each other for work that goes further than before and has quality ready for actual trial play."
 

 

Amp Chayut Walanchodom  Computer Science student, creator of Improve EnemyAI with MultiAgentSystem "This game trains quick reflexes where our opponent is AI working together in 2 parts (brain and field parts). The challenge begins because we must hide so the AI doesn't find us."
 

 

Tutor Thanayot Siratharanon Master's student in Information Technology and Data Science, creator of Disaster Monitoring in a Drone Simulation Environment Using Image Processing and Natural Language Interfaces "A project using artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT to work with drones, using everyday speech to command drones through ChatGPT to control drone flight. This project serves everyone who can use it without prior training. When there are situations requiring drone flight, this program will definitely help you."

 

 

Throughout the 2-month period that both cohorts learned, conducted research in laboratories, and worked closely with expert faculty in various fields, this opened worldviews and exchanged knowledge with colleagues from diverse cultures. It opened doors to the international academic and technology world. Anyone interested absolutely must not miss this opportunity.
