School of Humanities and Tourism Management, acting as an ASEAN Tourism Personnel Assessment Unit for the Food Production division, has conducted a competency assessment for tourism personnel under the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (MRA-TP). The initiative is supported by the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, with the aim of elevating the standards of tourism and culinary professionals in alignment with ASEAN-level vocational standards.

This year, the assessment was conducted for two job positions: Commis Pastry and Commis Chef. A total of 30 participants — comprising current students, alumni, and members of the general public — took part in the assessment to develop their potential and prepare for careers in the food and tourism industry across the ASEAN region.

The assessment consisted of a theoretical examination, a practical examination, and an English language proficiency test, all of which are key components of the ASEAN competency assessment framework. The evaluation process was conducted by National Assessors to ensure full compliance with the established criteria and standards.

Those who successfully pass the assessment will be certified as "ASEAN Tourism Professionals", which broadens their employment opportunities across ASEAN member states, strengthens the competitiveness of Thai professionals in the regional labor market, and elevates culinary vocational standards to internationally recognized levels.

This initiative reflects the School of Humanities and Tourism Management's role as a hub for tourism and hospitality workforce development — systematically integrating education, practical training, and professional standards. It also supports the production of quality human capital capable of meeting the demands of the food, hotel, and tourism industries at both the national and ASEAN levels.
