Fashion Design, School of Fine and Applied Arts Organizes 4 Skill-Enhancement Projects — Industry Professionals Share Real-World Experience with Students

Fashion Design, School of Fine and Applied Arts, has organized both on-site and off-site learning activities, recognizing the importance of enriching students' learning experiences through industry expert engagement. Guest speakers were invited to broaden students' perspectives toward real professional practice. Four activities were conducted in the past semester:

1. A special lecture on "Visual Storytelling for Theatre: Internship Experience and Portfolio" by K.Phisit Jongnararasin of the brand TUBE GALLERY, sharing knowledge and experience with a focus on conveying real-world work experience alongside presenting fashion design concepts in the context of theatrical performance — which goes beyond mere aesthetic appeal of costumes to encompass the communication of character, emotion, and narrative through visual elements.

The lecture content comprehensively explained the role of fashion in theatre, from script interpretation and designing costumes to suit characters and time periods, to collaborating with other elements such as lighting, color, stage, and actors' movement in order to create a complete visual narrative. It also connected internship experiences to the development of a portfolio that reflects the thought process and potential for real-world work in the creative industry.
The activity helped students understand the role of fashion in a broader dimension — both as a tool for communication and storytelling, and as a means of cross-disciplinary collaboration — all of which are essential skills for working in the fashion and creative industries today.

2. The Collage Arts: From Fabric Waste to Collage Arts Creation: BU x Oh My Craft Studio x Jim Thompson – A Sustainable Project was organized to enhance teaching and learning and to encourage students to explore the design process through the lens of Sustainable Design. This project was held for 2nd-year students enrolled in the course FSD333 Textiles Surface Design, with instructors including Dr.Orrapavadee Serewiwattana, A.Theera Chantasawat, and A.Thitiporn Niranwichaya.

The activity focused on using leftover fabric materials from Jim Thompson as the starting point for creative work, through both lectures and hands-on workshops under the guidance of Oh My Craft Studio, which challenged students to design and create Collage Arts pieces from waste materials — reflecting a design philosophy that values resources and fosters creative thinking.

On this occasion, the project was honored to have K.Natsupol Promsawat, artist and founder of Oh My Craft Studio, as the guest speaker, sharing expertise in design, leading the main workshop activities, issuing creative briefs, and selecting outstanding student works.

This project is part of a teaching approach that emphasizes industry collaboration and sustainable design, helping students develop creative thinking skills within material constraints while fostering an awareness of resourceful and responsible material use — in alignment with the current direction of the fashion industry.

3."The Enchanted Realm of Sretsis" Project — Broadening Design Perspectives Toward a Balance Between Creativity and Sustainability
This project provided students with the opportunity to learn from real practitioners in the fashion industry, focusing on a key issue in contemporary design: achieving a balance between Creativity and Sustainability — which serves as the core principle in developing the department's degree project works.

The project was made possible through collaboration with Sretsis, offering students the opportunity to participate in a field visit to Sretsis Inn Bangkok to study archive pieces, materials, details, and techniques from actual collections, as well as to attend a lecture by the design team, led by all three founders — K.Khlaiduen Sukhahut, K.Pimdao Sukhahut, and K.Matina Sukhahut — who shared their design philosophy connecting imagination with environmental responsibility.
During the activity, students learned about the systematic design process, from concept development and material selection to extending creative work within resource constraints — particularly the REIMAGINED concept, which reflects the idea of reinventing existing materials into new creative value alongside a sustainability dimension.

This project was conducted by Dr.Pathitta Nirunpornputta for students enrolled in the course FA417 Degree Project Preparation, serving as a foundation for developing degree project works in Semester 2 of the 2025 academic year, and encouraging students to apply the concepts of Creativity and Sustainability in a balanced manner within the context of contemporary fashion design.

4. Academic Collaboration Project with SIRIVANNAVARI — providing students with the opportunity to learn from experts in the high-end fashion industry while developing skills and preparing for real-world professional work.
This project was conducted for 3rd-year students enrolled in the course FSD345 Fashion Promotion and Communication, developed as a continuous learning activity bridging the academic and industry sectors.
Activity 1 was held in the form of a lecture and field visit at No. 1 Building, Soi Charoen Krung 30, the brand's headquarters, where students visited and learned about the design process from an actual workplace setting, within the context of Bangkok Design Week 2026.

The exhibition within the space presented the concept of the "Design Process" through systematic experimentation, revision, and iterative decision-making — reflecting that fashion, leather goods, and accessories are not merely finished products, but rather the result of continuous thinking and development. This helped deepen students' understanding of design.

Activity 2 was honored by the SIRIVANNAVARI team, who presented project reviews, offered professional guidance, and selected outstanding student works. Following their participation, students were assigned to develop a Portfolio under expert advice, as part of the selection process for students with potential and interest in joining the brand's Summer Internship Program for the 2025 academic year.
This project reflects a teaching and learning approach that emphasizes Industry-based Learning — integrating industry knowledge with classroom learning, aimed at developing design skills, creative thinking, and an understanding of real-world work processes, in order to elevate students' readiness for a professional career in the fashion industry. The project was conducted by Dr.Orrapavadee Serewiwattana and Dr.Pathitta Nirunpornputta.
