Creating Innovation at PDPA Hackathon 2024: BU-ITI Students Win Award for Outstanding Project
Congratulations to Ms. Piraya Pongpimai (Aomsin) and Ms. Pakjira Ratchatanich (Mee), students from the Data Science and Cyber Security program, Faculty of Information Technology and Innovation, who received the
"2nd Runner-up" award with a prize of 40,000 baht and a trophy from
Mr. Prasert Chantararuangthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE). The award was presented at the "PDPA Hackathon 2024 by Krungthai x PDPC: Trust and Sustainability" competition, which aims to raise awareness and understanding of personal data protection, especially among young people who are the country's future driving force. Dr. Ek Osothong, lecturer from the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, served as the advisor providing guidance throughout the project.
The Beginning of Participation in PDPA Hackathon 2024
"It all started when our professor encouraged us to join the competition. With very limited time, Aomsin and Mee teamed up to participate. We had known each other before from BU campus activities where we both participated in faculty events and decided to work together."
A Project That Offers More Than Just Competition
"Throughout the nearly one-month project period, we competed at the Krungthai Training Center Headquarters in Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima Province for 3 days. In this project, we collaborated with students from Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University, forming a team of 4 people divided into 2 technical specialists and 2 legal specialists. Our team was named 'I have know idea'."
The K2P (Know 2 Pay) Project
"Our project is an intermediary application for financial transactions for minors aged 7 years and above. We believe it's time for a change in payment systems. We used real examples from our own experiences as children when we secretly topped up game credits without our parents' knowledge by asking for cash to go to 7-Eleven, claiming we were buying snacks, only for them to later discover game top-up receipts. Mee was only 6-7 years old at that time. We don't want this to happen again, and it would be beneficial if parents could check and better supervise their children's activities."
Benefits Beyond the Award
"We gained so much from this experience, including teamwork skills, adaptability to work with others, and new connections with the Diving Agents, Mentors, facilitators, and fellow participants from both our team and other teams."
This project involved collaborative brainstorming and design to create innovations in personal data protection. The competition was organized to develop design skills and creative ideas for personal data protection innovations to keep pace with technology while also paving the way for students to enter future career paths.
