Team BeaconBU Showcases Next-Gen Talent, Reaches TOP 10 at Road Safety Expo — Elevating Emergency Response to Within 3 Minutes

The Road Safety Expo returned once again under the concept "Because Road Safety Isn't Just About Luck," providing a platform for young innovators to compete in the Road Traffic Injury Pitching Challenge (RTIPC). This year, Team BeaconBU — students from the School of Engineering, Computer and Robotics Engineering Program — advanced to the Top 10 finalists from competitors nationwide.

This achievement reflects the creativity and capability of Thai youth, who not only possess technical knowledge but can apply it to address a critical social issue: road accidents, which remain one of the leading causes of death in Thailand.

One team member shared: "Participants presented their concepts and innovations through an exhibition under the 3E framework: Engineering, Enforcement, and Education, with experts from various sectors providing guidance to help push these projects toward real-world implementation."

Team BeaconBU consists of 4 members from the Department of Computer Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering:

  1. Sarawut Kingklom
  2. Thanapol Sritong
  3. Tanakrit Tharinjaroan
  4. Yanisa Trisutho

Their project, the "IoT Blind-Spot Guard & Crash-Link System," originated as a graduation project on vibration/seismic detection before being developed into a road safety innovation.

"The core of this project is integrating 5G Cellular technology with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time image and driving behavior detection — including speeding, wrong-way driving, and traffic violations. The system can record images and video and instantly transmit data to relevant authorities."

When an accident occurs, the AI camera system activates automatically, transmitting critical information via the 5G network to rescue units within 3 minutes, including:

  • GPS coordinates
  • Live footage of the scene
  • Accident severity assessment

This enables responders to plan assistance accurately and swiftly. The system also connects to hospitals (for medical preparation), police stations (for traffic and scene management).

"This project was conceived because we believe every minute matters for survival — the faster you know, the faster help arrives, and the greater the chance of survival."

The exhibition marked the team's first large-scale public showcase, held at the BTS Siam–Siam Square One walkway, attracting significant public interest and valuable feedback from expert judges, including suggestions on developing alerts for other road users and cost assessment for real-world deployment.

The project's success stems from integrating academic knowledge in programming, AI development, and software system design, supported closely by faculty advisors A. Nattapakal Lichaikul and Dr.Sirichai Turmchokkasam

The team describes themselves as "puzzle pieces" — each member with a clear role, complementing one another to produce an efficient and cohesive outcome.
