Film Student Wins First Place for Artistic Work Reflecting Environmental Crisis

Congratulations to Ung Ariya Ung, a student from the School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts, who won First Prize for her creative environmental protection advertisement design on the topic "The Environmental Impact of Animal Feed Industry,"

Congratulations to Ung Ariya Ung, a student from the School of Digital Media and Cinematic Arts, who won First Prize for her creative environmental protection advertisement design on the topic "The Environmental Impact of Animal Feed Industry," organized by World Animal Protection Thailand. Her work is being exhibited at the "Behind The Feed Print Ads" exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

Another One Cause of Environmental Problems

The core purpose of this competition was to reflect the environmental impact of the animal feed industry, raising awareness among people worldwide about the importance of changing animal feed production methods. Ung explains, "After learning about the competition topic, I researched further and found that corn cultivation for animal feed in Thailand has a massive environmental impact. Corn is the most commonly used ingredient in animal feed, and after each harvest, farmers burn crop residues to clear the fields, which is a major cause of air pollution and PM 2.5 dust that we're currently facing."

Behind the Animal Feed Industry

From an ordinary student unaware of the animal feed industry's impact, after researching and understanding the problem's effects, she wanted to convey this issue to others in her own way. "When I first researched for ideas to create my work, the more I read and searched, the more shocking and frustrating problems I discovered. That's why my work has a somewhat dark tone - it truly expresses my real emotions."

AI Creating Art for the Environment

Understanding the impact of this problem, it was time to use her knowledge and skills to tell the story. "The competition allowed any technique according to our expertise. My work 'Oink Oink' presents a profound image through the combination of a pig eating corn and human hands, reflecting the connection between human consumption and environmental impact. I used Generative AI technology combined with digital image editing skills to create this work."

Oink Oink Reflects a Call for Change

"Oink Oink" isn't just the sound of pigs; it represents a call for humans to recognize their responsibility as consumers. "Animals can't choose what they eat, but humans can, and must lead the change to create sustainability for this world."

A Small Voice That Wants to Shout

After winning the award, Ung became a small voice raising awareness about the environmental impact of the animal feed industry among those around her. "Winning this award isn't just about success; it's an opportunity to voice support for sustainable change. We all have a role in creating change, and I hope this work will be an important starting point regarding the future of the animal feed industry and global environment."
