The Department of Fashion Design, School of Fine and Applied Arts, has taken a bold step toward real-world learning by partnering with SC GRAND Co., Ltd. (Saengcharoen Grand) to launch the "BU x SC GRAND: Circular Materials for Fashion Design" project. Second-year students were given the opportunity to tackle genuine industry briefs in fashion design, while advancing the concepts of Circular Economy and Sustainable Fashion through the creation of works made from waste materials — preparing them to become the fashion designers of the future.

The project ran from January to May 2026 under the course FSD322: Fashion Design and Ethnography. It focused on integrating classroom knowledge with real-world industry experience, enabling students to learn about fashion design processes that respond to sustainability goals and can be applied in professional practice.

The project was honored by the participation of Mr. Jiraroj Phojanawaraphant, an executive of SC GRAND Co., Ltd., and Mr. Teeratach Thaninbenjagul, a specialist in sustainable fashion textile innovation. Both shared their expertise, presented real-world design briefs, and provided guidance throughout the entire process — while also supplying industrial waste materials for students to experiment with, develop textile techniques, and create wearable prototype works.

Throughout the duration of the project, students practiced critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving within the constraints of limited materials, while learning how to add value to waste materials through creative design processes. They then presented their work to industry executives and specialists to receive feedback and further refine their designs.

The BU x SC GRAND: Circular Materials for Fashion Design project not only gave students the experience of working alongside a real business, but also helped them develop essential skills for the modern fashion designer — including design thinking, responsible material selection, and the creation of innovations that consider environmental impact — all of which are at the heart of the fashion industry in the circular economy era.

This collaboration reflects Bangkok University's educational philosophy of promoting Experiential Learning and building collaborative networks with the industry — developing graduates who are creative thinkers, who understand the context of the modern fashion business, who are responsible toward society and the environment, and who are ready to become professional designers capable of creating lasting value for the fashion industry in a sustainable future.
