Launch of "Blueprint" for People-Centric Courts: Creating Friendly Spaces for Everyone

The Built Environment Innovation Research Center and School of Architecture, Bangkok University, in collaboration with the Judicial Courts of Thailand, unveiled the "Blueprint for People-Centric Courts," a research project creating an architectural blueprint prototype for people-centered courts. The launch ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof.Dr.Natthaphob Nimpitiwan, Vice President for Research and Educational Innovation Development; Dr. Angela Macdonald, Australian Ambassador to Thailand; and Mr. Manop Jarutjariyawong, Appeal Court Judge at the Office of the President of the Supreme Court.

This blueprint research project reflects shared values between Thailand and Australia that justice should be a service accessible to all comprehensively. This blueprint places people's needs at the heart of the justice system, including child-friendly spaces, facilities for people with disabilities, modern technology, and separate waiting areas. Additionally, it employs participatory design concepts and insights from justice seekers, civil society, and justice process experts such as judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and social workers to create court environments that equally respond to the needs of all user groups. It is founded on Human-Centric Design principles that support spaces and justice processes reflecting the values of equality, safety, and dignity for everyone.

This research project is funded by the Australian Embassy in Thailand under the supervision of ASEAN-ACT Thailand, in collaboration with the Rapheepattanasak Research and Development Institute, Office of the Judiciary. Through this collaboration, the project held a launch event for this people-centered court architectural blueprint prototype research. The event featured a panel discussion on "The Future of People-Centric Justice Processes," with panelists including Asst. Prof.Dr.Rittirong Chutapruttikorn, Assistant Professor of the research project, Bangkok University; Mr. Paophan Chobnamtan, Deputy Secretary-General of the President of the Supreme Court; and Mr. Chanaphat Maneedul, Program Manager of ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Woramon Ramangkura, Court of First Instance Judge at the Office of the President of the Supreme Court.
