FAQ : PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

A: Bangkok University International College (BU International) was established initially as an international program to prepare students for success in this highly demanding, competitive world. Students are able to choose their own fields of study. Courses are offered in six fields of study and taught entirely in English. Not only will the students acquire knowledge in the fields of their choice, but they will also increase their knowledge and skills in the usage of English. Our distinguished professors include Thai and foreign nationalities.

 

Bangkok University is affiliated with many highly reputed American universities which have given their full support in terms of exchanging ideas regarding the educational format and development, curriculum and teaching methods, including relevant materials as well as research work.

A: Yes.  Transfer students seeking admission to Bangkok University must have obtained a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above from former accredited institutions. The grades earned from the former institutions are valid for only five years. The grade eligible for transfer can not be lower than "C" or its equivalent.

The transcript, course descriptions and one letter of recommendation from the former university must be submitted with the other application documents for the purpose of the credit transfer.

A: Yes, this airport pickup service, however, is exclusively for the exchange students from BU International’s partner universities.  The students who request for this service will contact the BU International office one week in advance, informing their arrival flight details.

A: Apply in person at BU International Office, City Campus, and bring the following documents:

1.  A completed application form;

2.  A copy of the official transcript;

3.  A M.6 certificate or equivalent issued by the Ministry of Education, or equivalent certificates from local or overseas educational institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education;

4.  Three 1" x 1" photographs taken not more than 6 months prior to application;

5.  A copy of Identification card;

Note: All copies must be printed on A4 paper and contain an endorsement signature.

A:

1. Fill out an application online. (Click)
2. Submit the following documents to the BU International Office:

• Application fee of USD 53, cashiers check made payable to Bangkok University
• An original copy of the Official Transcript
• A photocopy of High School Diploma
• A photocopy of the passport 
• An English proficiency test score report from accepted organizations (e.g. TOEFL or IELTS). The English proficiency test is waived for applicants who are native speakers of English   
• Three 1" x 1" photographs

Mail all documents to:

Note: All copies must be printed on A4 paper and contain an endorsement signature.  For any certificates or transcripts not written in English or Thai, please also submit an English translation certified by the educational institution.

Please allow sufficient time for the process of your applications, your documents to arrive, and your acquisition of visa.  For specific deadlines of each semester, please see question “When should I apply?”.

The application form will be scrutinized by the Selection Committee. If selected, the applicant will receive a letter of acceptance from the University which can be used to request a student visa at the Thai Consulate in his/her country

A: Once accepted to BU International, the letter of acceptance and the visa request package will be mailed to your address.  You are required to go to the Thai Embassy or Consulate as stated in the visa request letter to obtain the student visa.

A: Yes.  In addition to the cashiers check method, the overseas applicant is able to make a wire transfer to the account of Bangkok University using the following information:

A: Housing is not available on campus, but there is an off-campus university-owned apartment called The Link 2. 

Accommodation is also available in private apartments near the city campus.  Apartments within walking distance from the campus are offered in various prices and styles.

A typical studio apartment with basic furniture provided will cost from 6,000 to 12,000 Thai Baht per month, plus additional charges for utilities such as electricity, water, telephone, and internet access.  A deposit/advance payment equivalent to 2 or 3 months rent is usually required.  It is best to personally inspect apartments before making a commitment, so we recommend booking short-term accommodation for a few days upon arrival.

A: For local applicants, the students must:


1. hold a M.6 certificate or its equivalent issued by the Ministry of Education, or equivalent certificates from local or overseas educational institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education; 
2. not suffer from a communicable disease or mental disorder; and 
3. have a clear good record of conduct. 
4. A qualified applicant for courses in Hotel and Tourism Management must have the required height of 160 cm. for men and 155 cm. for women.

All candidates are required to pass the written entrance examination in English and mathematical aptitude. Those who have a SAT score of at least 1000 (critical reading and mathematics sections only), or a TOEFL score of at least 500 (61 for iBT), or an IELTS score of at least 5.0 in all bands, or TU-GET score of at least 500, or CU-TEP score of at least 500 are eligible for admission without having to take the written examination.

A: We strongly encourage the applicants to apply as early as possible.  All candidates are required to provide a proof of English proficiency or take BU International’s placement test.  Those who failed to prove their English proficiency test will be required to take the IEN 001 Preparatory English Course (10 weeks). Therefore, the local candidates who do not submit their proof of English proficiency and wish to study in semester one (August-December) must apply before May 31st, or those who wish to study in semester two (January-May) must apply before September 30th.  Whereas, the overseas candidates who do not submit their proof of English proficiency and wish to study in semester one (August-December) must apply before May 1st, or those who wish to study in semester two (January-May) must apply before September 1st.

For the local candidates with a proof of English proficiency, the required application documents should be submitted before July 31st to study in semester one, or before December 31st to study in semester two.  For the overseas candidates with a proof of English proficiency or who are native English speakers, the required application documents should be submitted before June 30th to study in semester one, or before November 30th to study in semester two.
